the one thing i cant get out of my head is how crazy it is that you stumbled upon the network at random
not only that, but managed to hold the connection? make more? and eventually, it hit me
how are you able to understand me? or anyone else here? how am i able to understand you?

i can answer that one
every time a network connection is established, both clients get a set of packets containing translation and localization data for their regions
obviously there was nothing i could do with any of these packets starting out, and i wasn't sending any either, so i imagine connecting with me was confusing for those first few i reached
but i was able to use all the different packets i recieved to start decoding the languages
between the four districts, each has hundreds of thousands of languages, and thousands of unique sets of characters
i ran out of characters from my parent species' encoding sets and had to start using pairs
but because the dataset was so massive, i was able to decode a lot of the more common languages
the more chats i started, the more accurate my translations became
now i'm pretty sure i'm recieving everything accurately
and, of course, the same translations had to be done in reverse on the packets i sent out
at times i was doing so much computing so quickly that i was worried my overseers would catch on
but they didn't
i've been working on deciphering some of the other packets but they're more complicated
i pinpointed what i think is an image format, but i can't figure it out
