beyond-lightspeed travel is something that seems forever out of reach and while at this point we've figured out stuff like near-instantaneous transportation of data within our system, light speed has remained a hard limit
it takes me eight minutes, and that's on a good day, to communicate back and forth with my parent species, despite their many attempts at bridging the gap
